HUN-REN SZTAKI participated in cyber defence drill
On November 28, 2024, the institute participated in an all-day cyber defense drill. The exercise was organized by the Hungarian National Cyber Security Center. Participants included HunCERT (HUN-REN SZTAKI), the University of Debrecen, the University of Pécs, Óbuda University, and the Ludovika University of Public Service.
In the fictional scenario, research institutes and universities in Hungary were hit by a cyberattack. In the case of universities, the Neptun system was also affected, causing great outrage because students were unable to register for exams.
During the exercise, it became clear that a group of hackers was behind the whole incident. The tasks assigned and the simulated professional and media inquiries helped participants prepare for the tasks, exercises, and procedures necessary in the event of a crisis, and familiarize themselves with systems that are less known or used by organizations.
